Mark Holub

Drummer/Composer

Had a great time on the recent UK tour with Led Bib….really enjoyed playing with those guys again! Here’s a video from the tour, captured at the second night of our three night residency at the Vortex Jazz Club in London. The first night will be broadcast by the BBC in September.

Also, been keeping busy with Blueblut, with a couple of great concerts, most recently at the lovely outdoor pavilion in Drosendorf. We are launching the album, ‘Hurts so Gut’ in Austria on June 21st at Central Garden in Vienna, and there are rumours that we will be having a special beer brewed for the occasion….not to be missed. The album is coming out everywhere else at the end of September/early October, followed by a European tour at the end of October. You can even pre order the album here!

And in the works(!), Led Bib are touring in Germany and its environs in October, and then a short tour in November in the UK with a stop at London Jazz Festival.

As if that wasn’t enough….duo albums galore! A new duo album with Colin Webster is coming out on New Atlantis records in the autumn and the duo album with Irene Kepl is almost finished and will be coming out on SLAM Productions, most likely at the start of 2015.

The Led Bib video for ‘New Teles’ is out today with a great animation by Matthew Robins! Watch it below:

The Led Bib 10th anniversary releases are approaching! Out on April 21st in the UK and May 13th everywhere else!! We’ve been picking up some radio play already so you can have a listen again, if you want to hear some tracks from the album.

BBC 6 Music - Freak Zone played ‘This Roofus’

We are also very pleased that we are cover stars of the April/May issue of Jazz UK, talking about the new releases and the upcoming tour, read it online:

Really looking forward to the UK tour which starts in St. Ives on April 22nd!

Lots going on at the moment….trying to keep my head above water. Pleased to say the Blueblut record is done(barring any last minute changes). It will be coming out in the autumn/winter on a yet to be determined label. We will also be touring throughout Europe in support of it!!

Also, the new duo album with Irene Kepl is almost finished!!! Release date and tour information to come, for now, here is a video of a recent gig of ours at the ‘Interpenetration Festival’ in Graz

And, lastly, a recent duo album I did with Colin Webster is coming out on New Atlantis Records in the fall.

Also in the pipeline, Led Bib autumn continental European tour dates…and pleased to say that Led Bib’s May 1st show at the Vortex will be recorded by the BBC for Jazz on 3 for later broadcast.

Things are moving along quickly on quite a few projects at the moment. Just had a great gig with Blueblut for Skug’s night at Rhiz in Vienna, the album is pretty much completed, Chris has put up one of the tracks on his site. Take a listen…hopefully the album will see the light of day later this year!

Both Led Bib’s new albums are manufactured and release dates set!(UK 21st April Worldwide 13th May). I’m really excited about them and looking forward to the UK tour in April/May.

The duo album with Irene Kepl is also progressing well….hopefully for an autumn release on SLAM Productions

I’m off this week to lead some masterclasses/workshops with the fantastic Aldeburgh Young Musicians. AYM is an amazing course based at Snape Maltings full of some of the best young musicians the UK has to offer….and always centring on creativity , not just learning to play the instrument. Apparently they have extended their application deadline till the end of February, so get in there if you are a talented young UK based musician.

Things have been a little slow on the blog here….but that’s not to do with lack of activity. Been busy in the studio finishing off the Led Bib stuff and finalising the tours, recording and mixing a new album with Blueblut, recording a duo album with Irene Kepl and recording another duo album with Colin Webster….all the live dates will be updated soon! In the meantime, this has just been released. A little limited edition live CD of a recent concert Colin and I did in London.

Listen and order it here!!

Listening through all the Led Bib monitor mixes at the moment and getting really excited about the new album….the live vinyl is also all ready now, and going into mastering at the end of the month! Both are out on Cuneiform Records in April 2014!

This weekend Led Bib are off to Sibiu, Romania for a gig at the fabulous Jazz and More festival where we will be previewing material from our new album.

Some other things in the pipeline for 2014…..I am currently recording an album with Blueblut (Pamelia Kurstin and Chris Janka), working title(and hopefully the real title) is ‘Hurts so Gut’. I am also going into the studio in a few weeks for a duo project with violinist Irene Kepl and later in the month doing a session with Colin Webster for another release…All these are likely to see the light of day in 2014.

So….lots of things going on……

After completing some DIY tasks and managing not to electrocute myself, I can also say that I am pleased that a duo track I did with Irene Kepl has been released on ‘Damn! - freiStil-samplerin #3’. You can find out some more information and order it here:

Also, I have finally set up a Mark Holub soundcloud page….there are only a few things on there at the moment, but I hope to get some more stuff up soon….so many things to listen to and hours of Led Bib mixes to wade through(album out in April 2014). For now, check out what’s there!

And this Thursday, another outing for Blueblut, this time at the Moozak Festival at Fluc, Vienna

Some Blueblut action again…we have some actual ‘tunes’ together I am very excited to be playing them tomorrow at the Porgy & Bess in Vienna as part of Jazz Werkstatt Wien’s Room Service festival. Also coming up later in the month we will be playing at the Moozak festival in Fluc, Vienna.

This weekend also starts the process of the next Led Bib studio album recording!! The live album is already being mixed and next year’s tours are already being booked…so very much looking forward to it all.

So…a fun time was had in London….some lovely gigs and nice to be playing for Rambert again….Here is a little video of a gig I did with Irene Kepl at the Vortex, the duo is really coming on well I think(there are some other videos too) and there are plans for a release soon….watch this space

Led Bib is rolling along nicely as well, with the live album mixed and ready for mastering and pressing into our first LP….and we are going into the studio in September to make the CD….fun times…..

Some other fun things coming up, so check the calendar….in the meantime, I am really proud of this, which I installed today…lights and mirror and I didn’t electrocute myself or anything.
